Girl child found dead in Bagerhat

BAGERHAT, Sept 27: A seven-year-old girl was found dead with her throat slit and her body wrapped in a sack in a fish enclosure in Mollahat Upazila of the district on Saturday night, police said on Sunday.

Muslima Akter, daughter of Islam Sheikh of Kachuria Madhyapara in Kodalia Union, had been playing near her home with other children on Saturday afternoon before she went missing. Her body was later found on the bank of a fish enclosure.

Police have taken three local residents, including a man identified as Jahangir and his two sons, into custody for questioning over suspected involvement. Authorities said the motive and circumstances of the killing remain unclear.

In this connection, Mollahat Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sumona Ireen said, following the discovery, angry villagers allegedly set fire to Jahangir’s home and betel-leaf garden. Police and detectives are investigating the killing and working to identify those responsible.
