Police recovered the headless body of an unidentified man from the Bhairab River in Fakirhat upazila of Bagerhat on Sunday evening.
The body was recovered from the Mansa area of the upazila on September 27 after it was found floating in the river.
Locals believe the body may have drifted downstream from the Rupsa area of Khulna.
Fakirhat Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Raziullah Khan said, "the headless body of an unidentified man was recovered from the Bhairab River."
He said the body appeared to be three to four days old and had already begun to decompose.
The matter has been reported to the river police, Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) and Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the OC said.
After a preliminary inquest, the body was sent to the morgue of Bagerhat Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
