KAU launches cleanliness drive to prevent dengue

KHULNA, Sept 28: Khulna Agricultural University (KAU) launched a cleanliness drive at its temporary campuses on Sunday to prevent the spread of dengue and chikungunya by destroying Aedes mosquito breeding grounds.

KAU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Asaduzzaman Sarker led the campaign, which began at 11 am on Temporary Campus-1 and continued at noon on Temporary Campus-2.
The drive drew participation from Acting Registrar Md Rezaul Islam, faculty deans, teachers, students, officers, and employees, who cleared accumulated waste and potential breeding sites across the grounds.

Speaking at the event, Prof Dr Md Asaduzzaman Sarker noted that dengue has reached alarming levels in Khulna and nationwide, filling hospitals and infecting several members of the university community. He emphasised that maintaining a clean environment is vital to halting the disease.

Prof Dr Md Asaduzzaman Sarker added that the initiative was launched following directives from the University Teachers’ Association of Bangladesh (UTAB) and aimed to secure a safe campus.

University authorities announced that regular cleanup efforts will continue. They urged the campus community to remain vigilant and prevent water accumulation in open spaces where mosquitoes thrive.
