Bail denied to 27 arrestees

 A Dhaka court on Monday denied bail to 27 people arrested under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure following a police raid on the central office of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JaSaD) in the capital. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akter passed the order after a hearing, saying the matter needed to be investigated.

The 27 were arrested after police raided the JaSad office in Gulistan on Saturday and detained several hundred people for questioning. After screening, police showed 27 of them arrested under Section 54 and released the remaining 249 on Sunday.
 Police alleged that the detainees had gathered at the office, chanted “Joy Bangla” and created an unstable situation. They also claimed they had information that leaders and activists of the banned Awami League had gathered there for possible subversive activities.
