Aunt held over killing of 4-yr-old niece in Bandarban

A four-year-old girl was allegedly strangled to death by her paternal aunt over a family dispute in Bandarban on Monday.

The incident took place in the Moydar Mill area of Suwalak Union in the afternoon.

The deceased, Taifa Sultana, was the daughter of Tipu Khan of the area.

Police have detained the accused, Nargis Sultana, in connection with the incident.

According to locals, Taifa had been missing since Monday morning. Her family searched for her in different places and later filed a general diary with the police.

Later in the afternoon, family members, while checking CCTV footage, found the child’s body at the house of her aunt Nargis Sultana Kachi in the neighbouring area and informed police.

Police recovered the body from the house and sent it for further examination.

Police initially suspected that the child was strangled to death.

Bandarban Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Masud Parvez confirmed the incident, saying the detained woman had confessed to the killing.

Legal proceedings are underway, he added.
