Chhatra League, Jubo Dal Clash in Rupganj, 3 Injured

A clash broke out between members of the banned Chhatra League and Jubo Dal activists in Rupganj of Narayanganj over a political dispute.

Several rounds of blank shots were fired during the incident, triggering panic and security alerts in the area. Business establishments belonging to both sides were attacked and vandalised, while a motorcycle was set on fire. Three people were reportedly injured.

The incident took place around 10:00 PM on Monday (September 28) in the Barpa area of Tarabo Municipality.

According to local sources, an argument broke out between Arzu Bhuiyan, organising secretary of Ward No. 6 Jubo Dal in Tarabo Municipality, and Chhatra League leader Rafin Bhuiyan over political issues. At one point, Arzu allegedly struck Rafin on the head with a brick.

Rafin then left the scene and later returned to Barpa Bus Stand from the Murapara area on two motorcycles. He allegedly fired four blank shots, causing panic among local residents.

Later, supporters of the two sides engaged in a chase and counter-chase, which escalated into a clash. Arzu Bhuiyan’s supporters allegedly set fire to a motorcycle belonging to Rafin Bhuiyan’s supporters.

Later, Arzu’s supporters allegedly attacked and vandalised 16 business establishments and houses belonging to the Chhatra League leader and his relatives. Three people, including Eyar Hossain, were injured when they tried to intervene.

The situation remained tense following the incident. A team of police from Rupganj Police Station, led by Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Mehedi Islam of Narayanganj District Police, reached the scene and brought the situation under control. However, no one was arrested immediately.

Mukta Hossain, inspector (investigation) of Rupganj Police Station said, "police went to the scene immediately after receiving the report and brought the situation under control."

A case has been filed over the incident, and efforts are underway to arrest those involved. He said the situation is currently normal.
