Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained six Bangladeshis, including a woman and a child, while they were allegedly attempting to enter India illegally through the Maheshpur border in Jhenaidah on Tuesday morning.
A patrol team of Maheshpur Battalion (58 BGB) under the Polianpur Border Outpost detained them at around 8:00 AM.
The detainees were identified as Jomat Ali Gazi, 57, Mariam Begum, 41, Shishu Sarker, 51, Rowshanara, 32, Md Simanta, 16, and Shamima Khatun, 9. They are from Khulna, Gopalganj and Munshiganj.
According to BGB, a patrol team led by Naib Subedar Shri Tapas Kumar Sarker conducted a drive in the Raipur area of Polianpur village, around 50 yards inside Bangladesh from Border Main Pillar 60/1-R. The six were detained while allegedly attempting to cross the border into India.
Assistant Director of 58 BGB Munshi Imdadul Islam said preliminary questioning indicated that they were trying to enter India illegally for work.
The detainees were handed over to Maheshpur Police Station for legal action.
