Two cargo ships collide near Kutubdia

Two cargo ships were involved in a minor collision while heading towards the Kutubdia Alpha anchorage in the Bay of Bengal on Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred around 8:30 AM involving MV APJ Shirin and MV HG Sydney, according to the Chattogram Port Authority.

The two vessels promptly informed the Vessel Traffic Management Information System (VTMIS) after the collision and later secured themselves in safe positions.

An inspection is underway to assess possible damage to the port-side structure of MV HG Sydney. Local representatives of the vessels have also been informed.

Chattogram Port Authority Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim said no casualties or deaths had been reported so far. There was also no report of pollution in the sea.

He said details of the damage would be known after the inspection is completed. The situation is being monitored by the relevant authorities.
