Women's hockey development programme concludes in Bandarban

 
The first phase of the 'BRAC Bank Aparajeyo Alo Women's Hockey Development Programme 2026' concluded successfully in Bandarban, with the initiative aimed at promoting women's hockey in the hill districts and identifying new talent at grassroots level.

Organised by the Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) and sponsored by BRAC Bank PLC, the training and development programme concluded with a ceremony at a local school auditorium in Bandarban.

Group Captain Refatul Islam, chairman of the Women's Wing of the Bangladesh Hockey Federation, attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest. Anup Mahajan, relationship officer and SME unit in-charge of BRAC Bank's Bandarban branch, was present as a special guest. BHF Women's Wing secretary Tariquzzaman Nannu and other sports personalities also attended the event.

The first phase of the talent identification and development programme covers eight districts, including the three hill districts of Bandarban, Rangamati and Khagrachhari.

During the Bandarban camp, the young participants received intensive training in the fundamentals of hockey, rules of the game and technical skills. The programme was designed to introduce more girls from remote areas to hockey while identifying players with the potential to progress through the sport's development pathway.

Speakers at the closing ceremony praised the initiative for its focus on grassroots development and expressed hope that talented players from remote parts of the country would go on to contribute to the national women's hockey team.
