Mirpur-10 turns into battlefield; City corp vehicles set ablaze

A clash broke out during a footpath eviction drive in the Mirpur-10 area on Wednesday, with hawkers allegedly vandalising police vehicles and setting fire to three Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) garbage trucks.
Mirpur Model Police Station duty officer Mohammad Shahidul Islam confirmed the incident.
According to police and local sources, a fire broke out during the eviction operation, reportedly following an electrical short circuit. The incident triggered anger among hawkers and roadside traders, who allegedly set fire to three city corporation garbage trucks.
They also reportedly vandalised an excavator and a police vehicle during the confrontation.
Two units of the Fire Service were working to bring the fire under control, according to the officials.
