No LNG shortage expected in Oct-Nov: Petrobangla

Petrobangla has secured 19 LNG cargoes for October and November, ruling out any shortage during the two-month period.

Of the total, 10 cargoes will arrive in October and nine in November, according to officials of Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Resources Corporation (Petrobangla).

Petrobangla Chairman Md Abdul Mannan said the required cargoes had been secured to ensure uninterrupted gas supply to the national grid.

Of the 10 October cargoes, three will be procured from the spot market, while two will come under long-term contracts and five under short-term contracts.

In November, six cargoes will be imported under long-term contracts and three under short-term agreements. The cargoes have been sourced from countries including the United States, Nigeria and Angola.

According to Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Ltd (RPGCL), each cargo contains around 3.2 million MMBtu of LNG. The 19 cargoes will therefore contain about 60.8 million MMBtu in total.

The LNG will be transported by sea to the country's terminals, where it will be regasified before being supplied to the national gas grid through pipelines.

Petrobangla Director (Finance) AKM Mizanur Rahman said the secured shipments include cargoes under long-term and short-term contracts as well as spot-market purchases. With imports secured according to demand, no major disruption in LNG supply is expected in the coming months.
