Young man's body recovered by roadside in Sonargaon

Police recovered the body of a young man with a stab wound to his chest from the roadside in Sonargaon, Narayanganj, on Wednesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Md Habibullah Sheikh, alias Nasim, 23. Police said there was a sharp-weapon injury on the right side of his chest. The body was recovered around 6:30 AM from the roadside near the Olympic Biscuit factory in the Lalati area of Kanchpur, along the Asian Highway (Dhaka Bypass) in the upazila.

Habibullah was the son of Mosharraf Hossain from the Deobhog area under Narayanganj Sadar Police Station. His family said he had been missing since Tuesday night.

H M Jasim Uddin, in-charge of the Taltala Investigation Centre under Sonargaon Police Station, said locals informed police after spotting the body near the Olympic Biscuit factory in the Lalati area of the Asian Highway. Police later went to the scene and recovered the body. He said a sharp-weapon injury was visible on the right side of the young man's chest.

Police said his identity was confirmed through an identification card found in his pocket. After receiving the news, family members arrived at the scene, and the deceased's younger sister, Mili Akter, identified the body.

Md Sifat, the deceased's nephew, said Habibullah used to study at a madrasa in the Deobhog area of Narayanganj. He left his studies about a year and a half ago to work as an electrician with his father. He left home on Tuesday night without informing anyone and did not return.

Mohammad Abdul Barik, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sonargaon Police Station, said an inquest report was prepared and the body was sent to the Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Legal proceedings are underway.
