Prosenjit struggles to find new roles after four decades

West Bengal’s veteran actor Prosenjit Chatterjee, popularly known as ‘Mr Industry’, turned 64 on Tuesday. He has ruled Tollywood for over four decades, moving from commercial films to a wide range of challenging roles.

In an interview with Anandabazar on his birthday, Prosenjit spoke about his career and the difficulty of finding new characters after playing so many different roles over the past decade.

“I’ve done so many characters. Now I have to think about what new I can do. Choosing roles has become a real challenge. It’s not easy to find characters I haven’t played before. There is also a limit to how much you can break the mould,” he said.

Despite this, his desire to experiment remains strong. This year, he has already appeared as a rockstar and a doctor in two different films.

Asked what role he still wants to play, Prosenjit said he would like to do something similar to Marlon Brando’s character in The Godfather.

Born on September 30, 1962, to actor Biswajit Chatterjee and actress Pallavi Chatterjee, Prosenjit began his career as a child actor. He made his debut as a lead actor in Duti Pata in 1983 and rose to stardom with Amar Sangi in 1987.
