Appeal process opens against nominations

The appeal process against the returning officer’s decisions on nomination papers for the Thakurgaon-1 by-election began on Wednesday.
Candidates can file appeals with the Election Commission until October 4. The Commission will hear the appeals October 6, with withdrawal deadline October 7 and symbol allocation October 8. 

The by-election will be held on October 29 from 8am to 4pm without a break. The EC has ordered CCTV cameras at all polling centres, with footage to be recorded from the day before to the day after polling.

The six valid candidates BNP nominees Obaidullah Masud and Mirza Faisal Amin, Delwar Hossain of Jamaat-e-Islami, Md Abdul Alim Nizami of Khelafat Andolan, Md Khademul Islam of Islami Andolan Bangladesh and Hussain Muhammad Omar Faruk of Bangladesh Congress.
