South Indian actress Amala Paul has said she would no longer take on a film like her 2019 hit Aadai, as she has become more mature and conscious of her career and image with age and experience.

Speaking at the India Today South Conclave 2026, Amala recalled her experience of filming the movie, in which she appeared nude in several scenes required for her role.

She said she feared being typecast after Aadai, with filmmakers repeatedly offering her similar roles. However, she did not want to be confined to a particular image.

“If I were offered a film like Aadai now, I wouldn’t do it. It’s not about lacking courage; with time, people become wiser and more mature,” she said.

Amala said her biggest concern before doing the film was whether director Rathna Kumar would handle the subject sensitively. She spent nearly two months understanding the team’s approach before agreeing to the project.

She said she had to trust the director and cinematographer and make sure the film would be an emotional and artistic work rather than simply being about nudity. Once she gained that confidence, she described the filming process as “a beautiful creative experience,” adding that the crew kept only a few people on set to make her feel comfortable.
