PM to inaugurate Tk 1,542cr flood control project in Feni

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to visit Feni on Thursday (October 1) to inaugurate the rehabilitation work of the Muhuri-Kahua Flood Control, Drainage, and Irrigation Project, constructed at a cost of Tk 1,542.16 crore.
The visit marks his first official tour to Feni since assuming office as Prime Minister.
According to the official schedule, the Prime Minister will participate in several programs across Parshuram and Fulgazi upazilas. The tour begins in Parshuram with the formal inauguration of the mega infrastructure project aimed at resolving long-standing issues of seasonal flooding, waterlogging, and agricultural irrigation along the Muhuri and Kahua rivers.
Executive Engineer details from the Water Development Board indicate that the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC)-approved project comprises the rehabilitation of approximately 68 km of embankments, re-excavation of 83.5 km of rivers, bank protection works spanning over 11.5 km, and the construction of a hydraulic elevated dam.
The original 122 km embankment network was initially initiated during the tenure of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. The modernized rehabilitation expansion is now being formally launched under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
In addition to infrastructure inauguration, the Prime Minister will launch the distribution of Family Cards and Farmer Cards alongside agricultural assistance programs at the Fulgazi Government Pilot High School grounds. He is also scheduled to participate in a tree planting drive and attend an event concerning honorarium allowances for religious service providers.
Feni District Commissioner Mohammad Mahbubul Karim confirmed that all necessary security measures and administrative preparations have been completed for the Prime Minister's day-long visit.
