Thousands of BNP leaders, activists and supporters gathered on the Cumilla stretch of the Dhaka-Chattogram highway to welcome Prime Minister Tarique Rahman as he travelled to Feni.
By the time of filing this report, the prime minister had crossed Daudkandi, with large crowds continuing to wait along the highway to greet him.
From early morning, BNP activists and supporters took positions at various points along the roughly 104-kilometre stretch from Daudkandi to Chauddagram, standing in rows beside the highway with banners and festoons welcoming the prime minister.
Local BNP leaders said large gatherings were seen at key points including Daudkandi, Chandina, Nimsar, Paduar Bazar, Alekhar Char and Chauddagram.
A large crowd gathered at Nimsar under the leadership of local lawmaker Jasim Uddin. BNP leader Golam Sarwar also led activists from Burichang Mokam Union along a roughly two-kilometre stretch from Nimsar Junab Ali College to Mill Gate.
At Paduar Bazar and Alekhar Char, the presence of leaders and activists from the Cumilla South District and Cumilla Metropolitan BNP created a festive atmosphere along the highway.
Activists from Chauddagram, Laksam, Manoharganj and Nangalkot also gathered at designated points, standing in formation to welcome the prime minister.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman left Dhaka by road on Thursday morning for Feni, with supporters gathering along the route to greet him during his journey.
