A Dhaka court on Thursday (October 1) placed three individuals, including Md. Mizanur Rahman, son-in-law of Kushtia-2 Jamaat-e-Islami Member of Parliament Abdul Gafur, on a three-day police remand in connection with a case involving trespassing, vandalism, assault, and looting at a housing project in the capital's Cantonment area.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Monirul Islam issued the order following a hearing upon a five-day remand prayer submitted by the investigation officer, Cantonment Police Inspector Mohammad Al Amin.
The two other remanded suspects are Shahriar Mahmud (60) and Md. Shah Alam alias Onik (47).
According to the case statement filed by New Guinea Properties Limited officer Saiful Islam Bhuiyan, a group of around 50 armed individuals unlawfully entered the firm's project site in South Manikdi near ECB Square on September 26. The assailants fired approximately 50 rounds of gunshots and attacked staff with sharp weapons and sticks, injuring Site Engineer Md. Parvez and several others.
The attackers looted cash, electronics, computer equipment, and media gear, causing estimated damages of Tk 1.42 crore and theft of goods valued at Tk 1.50 crore. During the raid, the attackers also trespassed into, vandalized, and looted "Brown Fish," a studio owned by prominent content creator Salman Muqtadir.
Responding Cantonment police personnel were fired upon upon arrival and discharged five shotgun rounds in self-defense, arresting suspects on site alongside recovering domestic weapons and spent cartridges.
The case names 13 identified individuals and 150 to 200 unnamed suspects.
