Attorney General Barrister Md Ruhul Quddus Kajal has said BNP has taken action against one of its lawmakers over an alleged incident in a way Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami could not when it was in opposition.

He made the remarks while responding to reporters' questions about the resignation of BNP reserved women’s seat MP Ferdousi Ahmed Misty on Thursday (October 1).

Kajal said Jamaat had expelled its lawmaker Gazi Nazrul Islam from the party, but BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman asked a BNP MP to resign over the incident at Radda MCH-FP Health Centre in Mirpur.

"Jamaat could not do it, but the ruling BNP has been able to do so," the attorney general said.

He said the prime minister had addressed the matter in his capacity as head of government and that no leniency had been shown to Misty despite her being a member of the ruling party.

Tarique Rahman had directed Misty to resign following allegations of attack, looting and vandalism at the Radda MCH-FP Health Centre in Mirpur. Misty has since submitted her resignation.
