Woman held with 15,000 Yaba in Tongi

The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) arrested a woman with 15,000 yaba tablets in Tongi of Gazipur, on Thursday.

The arrestee was identified as Srabonti Akter, 20, daughter of Md Matin of Chardighaldi village in Madhabdi upazila of Narsingdi. She had been living in a rented apartment at Shahanara Manzil in East Arichpur.

DNC officials conducted a raid at the building on Thursday afternoon and recovered the yaba tablets after searching Srabonti and her room.

Md Emdadul Islam Mithun, deputy director of the Gazipur District DNC, said they conducted the raid based on a tip-off and recovered the yaba tablets during the search.

During preliminary interrogation, Srabonti reportedly told the DNC that she became involved in selling yaba alongside her university studies and private coaching.

The DNC is preparing to file a case against her under the Narcotics Control Act, officials said.
