Man hacked, shot dead in Daulatpur border

A man was hacked and shot dead allegedly by members of a rival group over a dispute involving drugs and control over the area in Daulatpur of Kushtia on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Golam Mostofa, also known as Tenggar. At least 15 people from both sides were injured in the clash.

The incident took place in Charuikuri village of Ramkrishnapur Union, a border area of the upazila, in the afternoon. The injured were admitted to different hospitals in Kushtia.

According to police and local sources, a dispute over drugs had been ongoing for several days between the groups led by Potol and Aza Member in Charuikuri village. Several attempts had been made locally to settle the dispute.

Tension escalated between the two groups on Thursday afternoon over the issue. At one point, an argument turned into a clash, with both sides displaying locally made weapons and opening fire.

Golam Mostofa, a member of the Potol group, was killed on the spot in the clash, while at least 15 people from both groups were injured.

The incident left the area tense, and law enforcement personnel were deployed to bring the situation under control.

Daulatpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khaledur Rahman said, ''the situation had become tense in the area but remained under police control.''
