A 13-year-old madrasa student died after suffering severe burns while playing on the rooftop of a girls’ madrasa in Fatullah, Narayanganj, raising the death toll from the incident to three.

Lamia died at the ICU of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery around 9:45 PM Thursday. She had suffered burns to 55% of her body.

Earlier, students Zidni, 14, and Atia, 11, died after being injured in the incident on September 26.

Dr Sultan Mahmud, resident surgeon at the institute’s emergency department, said the two other injured students, Asia and Sumaiya, are in stable condition and have been shifted from the ICU to a ward.

The five students were residential students of the madrasa. They are believed to have been burned after coming into contact with a high-voltage power line running over the madrasa roof.
