Deceased Freedom Fighter Delowar Hossain Master was buried without a state Guard of Honor in Jamalpur's Baksiganj following objections raised by local freedom fighters.
The burial took place on Thursday evening at his family graveyard in Sadhurpara union. Delowar Hossain Master passed away early Thursday while undergoing treatment at Aurora Specialized Hospital in Dhaka.
Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Asma Ul Husna arrived with a police contingent to deliver state honors. However, leaders of the Upazila Muktijoddha Sangsad Command blocked the move, causing local tension.
The deceased's son, Shamim Mia, stated that his father received official government benefits as a recognized freedom fighter since 2015. He added that both the High Court and the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs affirmed his father's status after a legal challenge.
In contrast, Upazila Muktijoddha Sangsad Commander Naushed Ali claimed Delowar Hossain was not a genuine freedom fighter and was added to the list improperly. He stated local veterans objected to protect the honor of genuine freedom fighters.
Executive Magistrate Asma Ul Husna explained that administration officials postponed the Guard of Honor to maintain law and order amid fierce local opposition. She noted that higher authorities will review the matter for further action.
