Medical centre sealed over unauthorised tests for Malaysia-bound workers

A medical and diagnostic centre in the capital’s Paltan area has been sealed for allegedly conducting medical tests and issuing reports for Malaysia-bound workers without government approval.

A mobile court conducted the operation at Human Diagnostic and Medical Centre on Box Culvert Road in Paltan on Thursday.

According to the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, an examination of the centre’s database found that it had conducted medical tests and issued reports for 14 Malaysia-bound people between September 20 and 30 without government authorisation.

The mobile court also found evidence of deceptive activities, with a signboard bearing the name ‘Samiha Diagnostic Centre’ being used alongside the Human Diagnostic and Medical Centre signboard in the same building.

The court ordered the closure of all activities at the centre and sealed it immediately in the public interest and to maintain discipline in the overseas employment sector.

Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury said the government had adopted a zero-tolerance policy against irregularities, fraud and unauthorised activities in the overseas employment sector.

“No organisation will be allowed to deceive workers seeking to go to Malaysia,” he said.

The minister said strict legal action would be taken against organisations issuing fake or fraudulent medical reports to overseas-bound workers.

He added that mobile court operations against such activities would continue across the country to protect the interests of migrant workers and ensure transparency.
