Elon Musk has reignited an online debate after again describing Instagram as an app “for girls” in response to an X user who said he had deleted the platform.
The user, Geiger Capital, announced on X that he had deleted Instagram, calling it a platform primarily used by women and saying it offered him no benefit.
Musk replied to the post with the comment, “Instagram is for girls”.
Musk made a similar remark in May while responding to a viral discussion about social media habits and online trends.
That discussion highlighted various Instagram habits, including posting revealing photos, frequently sharing stories and uploading pictures of homemade food.
Musk had also questioned why adult men sent him their Instagram profiles, asking whether they were “transitioning or what”.
His earlier comments drew criticism from many social media users, who described them as sexist and offensive.
His latest remark has once again prompted mixed reactions online. Some users questioned the comment by referring to X, while others rejected the idea that Instagram is associated with any particular gender.
“I don’t agree. I think Instagram is a welcoming space for all genders,” one user wrote. Another said, “Instagram is for everyone.”
