Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni has said YouTube and Facebook have become among the major causes of harm to the country, adding that the government will take steps to regulate the platforms.
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a debate competition titled ‘What to do to prevent teenage gangs’ at the capital’s FDC on Friday.
Moni said the country was facing an oil and gas crisis but there was no reason to organise a long march only five months after the government took office.
He alleged that a group was deliberately creating an artificial crisis to destabilise the country and turn it into a terrorist state as in the past.
Speaking about teenage gangs, he said effective measures were needed to prevent them. He also criticised various aspects of social media, saying YouTube and Facebook had become major causes of harm to the country.
He further warned that steps would be taken against the use of obscene language, which he said had increased in the country following the July movement.
Referring to the expulsion of ‘Mishti’, Moni said the government wanted to send a strong message to everyone through the expulsion.
He also criticised various incidents of disorder during the Awami League government.
