Police recovered the body of a former Union Parishad (UP) member from his home in Fakirhat upazila of Bagerhat on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, 80, a resident of the Pagla-Deyapara area under Ward No. 5 of Fakirhat Sadar Union and a former UP member.
His body was recovered from his home in the Pagla-Deyapara area shortly before noon on Friday.
According to locals, Mujibur Rahman was last seen having tea at a local shop on Tuesday night. He had not been seen outside since then.
On Friday morning, locals noticed a foul smell coming from around his house and became suspicious. They later informed the police.
On receiving the information, police from Fakirhat Model Police Station went to the scene, broke open the door of the house and recovered the body.
Fakirhat Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Raziullah Khan said the body of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had been recovered. Necessary legal procedures were being followed to determine the actual cause of death.
The body has been sent to Bagerhat 250-bed District Hospital for an autopsy. The cause of death will be known in detail after receiving the autopsy report, he added.
