A total of 3,717 farmers received ‘Farmer Cards’ in the first phase of the distribution programmes held in Kaliganj Upazila of Gazipur District and Singra Upazila of Natore District on Thursday.
KALIGANJ, GAZIPUR: A total of 1,451 farmers received Farmer Cards in Kaliganj Upazila.
The cards were handed over to selected farmers at an event held at Kalb Resort in Nagari Union in the afternoon. The nationwide distribution programme was also inaugurated simultaneously in 77 selected upazilas and agricultural blocks.
According to the upazila administration, the farmers are from the Chupair agricultural block of Jamalpur Union. Among them are 39 landless farmers, 571 marginal farmers, 770 small farmers, 68 medium farmers and three large farmers.
MPs AKM Fazlul Haque Milon, SM Rafiqul Islam and Md Mujibur Rahman, Gazipur Zilla Parishad Administrator Dr Chowdhury Ishraq Ahmed Siddiqui and BNP leader Shah Riazul Hannan handed the cards to the farmers.
Gazipur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Nurul Karim Bhuiyan, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Jasim Uddin, PPM (Bar), Kaliganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) ATM Kamrul Islam, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Al-Amin Haldar, and Kaliganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Zakir Hossain, among others, attended the event.
Selected farmers will also receive financial incentives for agricultural inputs, officials said.
The Farmers’ Card system has been introduced to ensure more direct and organised delivery of government support to farmers. According to the Agriculture Ministry, the government aims to bring 4.3 million farmers under the scheme nationwide this year.
SINGRA, NATORE: A total of 2,266 farmers from three wards of Sherkol Union in Singra Upazila are set to receive the cards.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman inaugurated the programme through a video conference at around 4pm at the Upazila Parishad auditorium.
The programme was organised by the upazila administration and the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE).
Of the 2,266 farmers from the Bhangnagarkandi block in Wards 1, 2 and 3 of Sherkol Union, 1,841 small and marginal farmers will receive Tk 2,500 a year as agricultural incentives through their bank accounts, according to the local agriculture office.
All ‘Farmer Card’ holders will also receive 10 types of agricultural support, officials said.
Natore DC Sumoni Akter, DAE Deputy Director Habibul Islam Khan, Singra UNO Abdullah Al Rifat, AC (Land) Nishat Anjum, OC Rafiqul Islam and Upazila Agriculture Officer Mahmudul Hasan attended the programme.
Local BNP leaders and officials of various government departments were also present.
