A 19-year-old man was stabbed to death while attempting to stop a fight at Pashu Hospital intersection in Satkhira town on Friday night.

The deceased was identified as Zakaria Khan, son of Alhaj Abdur Gafur Khan, owner of the well-known Ruchira Bakery in Satkhira. He was also a maternal cousin of Masum Billah Shaheen, a BNP leader in Satkhira municipality.

According to Shaheen, Zakaria was having tea at a shop near Pashu Hospital intersection around 11:30 PM when an argument broke out between the shopkeeper and another man. The situation soon turned tense.

When Zakaria tried to protect the shopkeeper and stop the fight, one of the attackers allegedly stabbed him in the chest and abdomen with a sharp weapon.

Local shopkeepers and pedestrians rescued Zakaria and took him to Satkhira Medical College Hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.

Inspector (Investigation) of Satkhira Police Station Md Shahidur Rahman confirmed the incident.

Police visited the scene after receiving the report and are collecting and reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify those involved in the attack. Efforts are underway to bring the perpetrators to justice, police said.
