Trawler carrying 250–300 sacks of sarees, three-piece sets seized.
The Coast Guard and police seized a trawler carrying a large consignment of Indian sarees, clothes and three-piece sets during a joint operation in the Sandhya River early Saturday.
The trawler, FB Haji Pear (F-11549), was seized around 4 AM following a tip-off. It was carrying around 250–300 sacks of Indian clothes, estimated to be worth more than Tk 8 crore.
When the trawler tried to flee, Coast Guard personnel reportedly fired 26 rounds of blank shots before taking control of it.
The sacks are being unloaded and checked. Sources said they also received information about possible drugs on the trawler, but no drugs have been officially recovered.
An eyewitness claimed that a man identified as Sarwar Commissioner offered Tk 20 lakh to secure the trawler’s release. The claim could not be independently verified.
Sources also alleged that Sarwar Commissioner and Nimai Majhi may be linked to the consignment, though law enforcement agencies have not confirmed the allegations.
The trawler remains in Coast Guard custody as the investigation continues.
