Train crushes woman in Lalmonirhat

LALMONIRHAT, Oct 3: An unidentified woman was killed after being struck by a train in Aditmari Upazila of the district on Friday afternoon.

The accident occurred in the Khatapara-Dauljor area as the Kurigram-bound Karatoa Express, travelling from Santahar, was passing through the area after leaving Lalmonirhat railway station. Witnesses said the woman was sitting on the railway tracks before the train approached and died on the spot.

Police from Aditmari and Lalmonirhat railway stations reached the site. Railway police recovered the body and sent it to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital.

The woman’s identity has not yet been established because the body was severely dismembered in the accident, police said.

Officer-in-Charge of Lalmonirhat Railway Police Station Habibur Rahman confirmed the incident and said efforts were underway to identify the woman. Legal procedures are also being initiated, he said.
