Bangladesh has strongly condemned a reported drone attack by Yemen’s Houthi rebels on a power facility in the holy city of Madinah, Saudi Arabia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued the condemnation in a statement on Sunday (October 4).

''Deliberately targeting critical civilian infrastructure serving the Prophet’s Mosque is unacceptable under any circumstances,” the ministry said, stressing that attacks threatening the sanctity of Islam’s holiest sites cannot be tolerated.

Bangladesh expressed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia in safeguarding the country’s security and sovereignty. Dhaka also reaffirmed its opposition to any form of aggression that could undermine regional peace and stability.

The Foreign Ministry said Bangladesh’s support for Saudi Arabia’s security and sovereignty would remain steadfast.

A Saudi-led coalition fighting the Houthis said the Yemeni rebel group had targeted a power supply facility in Madinah that provides electricity to the Prophet’s Mosque (Masjid an-Nabawi), one of Islam’s holiest sites.

According to the coalition, the attack disabled a transformer but caused no significant disruption to the wider power supply system.

The Houthis, however, have denied carrying out any such attack.
