Police detained 170 suspected members of juvenile gangs during overnight drives across Noakhali district.
The drives were conducted from Saturday evening to Sunday dawn across various police stations in the district under the direction of Superintendent of Police NM Nasiruddin.
Noakhali Additional Superintendent of Police (Admin and Finance) Abu Taher Md Arif Hossain confirmed the details in a press release on Sunday afternoon.
Of the detained individuals, 18 face legal procedures while 152 were released to their families after signing undertaking bonds.
Among those facing legal action, two were prosecuted under the Anti-Terrorism Act, 10 under Section 34 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and six were arrested in regular cases.
By police station breakdown, Hatiya recorded the highest 49 detentions, where two face Anti-Terrorism Act charges, six face CrPC Section 34 prosecution, and 41 were released to their guardians.
Begumganj Model Police Station detained 32 individuals, prosecuting four under Section 34 and releasing 28 to parents. Sonaimuri police detained 18 individuals, arresting six in regular cases and returning 12 to family custody.
Additionally, police detained and released on bond 32 individuals in Char Jabbar, 17 in Companiganj, nine in Kabirhat, six in Chatkhil, four in Sudharam Model, and three in Senbagh.
Superintendent of Police NM Nasiruddin stated that regular drives against juvenile gangs will continue to maintain social order and public safety. He urged parents, educational institutions, and community leaders to join awareness efforts to prevent youth crime.
