Biman Bangladesh Airlines will sign an agreement with Airbus on October 7 to purchase 10 aircraft, including four A350-900s and six A321neos, officials said on Sunday.

Airbus India and South Asia President and Managing Director Jürgen Westermeier and Biman Managing Director and CEO Kaiser Sohel Ahmed are expected to sign the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.

The signing ceremony is scheduled to be held at the Radisson Hotel in Dhaka on Wednesday evening, with Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat and Foreign Affairs State Minister Humayun Kabir expected to attend.

Under the agreement, four A350-900 wide-body aircraft will be used mainly for future long-haul international routes, while six A321neo narrow-body aircraft will serve regional and medium-haul routes.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat had earlier said Bangladesh would purchase 10 Airbus aircraft and that the agreement would be signed in October.

The aircraft are expected to be delivered from 2033, with deliveries potentially continuing until 2036 or 2037. The total commercial value of the deal has not yet been officially disclosed.

The purchase will add Airbus aircraft to Biman's predominantly Boeing fleet. The airline had previously operated Airbus aircraft, but most of its current jet fleet consists of Boeing aircraft.

The Airbus deal is part of Biman's broader fleet expansion plan. The airline had earlier agreed to purchase 14 Boeing aircraft — eight 787-10 Dreamliners, two 787-9 Dreamliners and four 737-8s.

The planned Boeing purchases were later expanded by another 11 aircraft, comprising five 787-10s and six 737-8s, bringing the total planned Boeing purchases to 25.

If the Airbus plan is also implemented, Biman's long-term aircraft acquisition plan will comprise 35 new Boeing and Airbus aircraft, including 19 wide-body and 16 narrow-body aircraft.

Biman is also considering leasing aircraft to meet its short-term capacity requirements until the new-generation aircraft are delivered.

The October 7 agreement would mark a significant step in Biman's long-term fleet modernisation and expansion plan and formally introduce Airbus aircraft into its latest procurement programme alongside Boeing.
