More than 100 candidates who were finally recommended for appointment as assistant teachers at government primary schools but later excluded during police verification have begun an indefinite hunger strike demanding appointment letters.
The candidates began their hunger strike in front of the Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) headquarters in Mirpur, Dhaka, on Sunday morning. They said they would continue the hunger strike and remain on the streets until their demand is met.
The protesters alleged that they passed the written and oral examinations on merit and received final recommendations for appointment. However, they were excluded at the final verification stage despite submitting all required documents.
