Traffic movement returned to normal in front of the National Press Club in the capital on Monday (October 5) afternoon after battery-operated autorickshaw drivers lifted a road blockade.

Vehicular movement along the key route connecting Paltan and the Press Club was fully restored shortly before 1:00 PM, following a protest demonstration that had disrupted traffic and caused severe public suffering across nearby intersections.

The drivers staged the demonstration to protest the disconnection of electricity lines used for charging their vehicle batteries. Demonstrators blocked the thoroughfare and chanted slogans demanding immediate restoration of power connections, warning of tougher programs if their demands are not met.

Protesting drivers stated that the sudden power disconnection left them unable to charge their autorickshaws, threatening their daily livelihoods and plunging them into an immediate economic crisis.
