The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved a charge sheet against seven people, including former Farmers Bank audit committee chairman Mahbubul Haque Chisty, alias Babul Chisty, over alleged irregularities in loan approval and disbursement, inadequate collateral and diversion of loan funds.
ACC Assistant Director Md Tanjir Ahmed disclosed the information on Monday.
He said an investigation into a case filed with Dhaka-1 found preliminary evidence supporting the allegations. The Commission approved charges under Sections 409, 420 and 109 of the Penal Code, Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1947 and Section 4(2) of the Money Laundering Prevention Act 2012.
The accused are Md Golam Mostafa Bhuiyan, proprietor of M/S Nasim Enterprise; Irfanul Haque, former manager (operations) of Farmers Bank’s Mirpur branch; Swapan Kumar Roy, former first vice-president of Padma Bank; Mahbubul Haque Chisty, former sponsor-director and chairman of the executive/audit committee of Farmers Bank; Habibur Rahman, proprietor of M/S Believe One Associates; Md Abdul Motaleb Patwary, former deputy managing director of Farmers Bank; and Sabbir Mohammad Sayem, senior executive vice-president and branch head of Padma Bank’s Gulshan Corporate Branch.
