A 38-year-old man was allegedly hacked to death by members of a rival group in Debdun village of Narail’s Kalia upazila on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Arafat Mollia, son of Mokidul Mollia of Debdun village.
The incident took place near his home in Jaynagar Union under Naragati Police Station at 12 midnight on Monday.
According to the victim’s family and locals, members of the rival group called Arafat out of his home on at night. They later hacked him indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured.
When female members of his family tried to rescue him, the attackers also assaulted them, they alleged.
Locals rescued Arafat in critical condition and took him to Kalia Upazila Health Complex. The emergency department duty-doctor declared him dead on arrival.
Naragati Police Station Officer in-Charge Md Hossain Ali said Arafat’s body was being sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
He also said more than 10 cases had been filed against Arafat and that there were six arrest warrants against him.
