District police in Magura have arrested an alleged "drug kingpin," Shahin Alam, 46, along with 8,000 Yaba pills, Tk 348,000 in cash from drug sales, a motorcycle, and three mobile phones. His wife, Sathi Khatun, 36, and associate, Khalid Hasan, 31, were also arrested during the operation.
They were arrested following a raid conducted between 11:50 PM on Monday (October 5) and 3:50 AM on Tuesday (October 6) in the Kashinathpur area of Ward No. 1 under Magura Municipality.
The District Police media wing released this information in a press statement on Tuesday.
Police stated that the special operation was conducted under the direction and overall supervision of District Superintendent of Police Molla Azad Hossain, PPM (Seba). The operation involved a coordinated effort by Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Thandar Khairul Hasan (PPM), Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Nishat Al Nahian, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Probationary) Md. Sabbir Ahmed, and Detective Branch (DB) Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman, alongside personnel from the DB, CCIC, and Sadar Police Station.
At one stage of the operation, police searched Shahin Alam's residence and arrested him, his wife Sathi Khatun, and his associate Khalid Hasan. Subsequently, 8,000 Yaba pills were recovered from their possession.
Additionally, police reported the seizure of Tk. 348,000 in cash from drug sales, a Discover 135cc motorcycle used for transporting drugs, and three mobile phones.
Police claim that preliminary interrogation of the three arrestees revealed their involvement with an organized drug trafficking ring. Authorities also possess information indicating that they had been secretly running a drug trade for a long time.
According to district police records, Shahin Alam faces a total of six cases, including charges related to drugs and robbery. His wife, Sathi Khatun, also faces two drug-related cases.
Police further stated that there were allegations of them continuing their drug trafficking activities despite being under the surveillance of law enforcement agencies at various times. Magura District Police state that anti-drug operations have been further intensified. Regular special drives, alongside intelligence surveillance, are being conducted to identify and arrest drug traffickers and dismantle their networks.
Processes are underway to file cases against the arrested individuals under the Narcotics Control Act. Police have also confirmed that operations to identify and arrest others involved with them are continuing.
