The bodies of an unidentified man and a woman were recovered separately from beside the waiting room of the emergency department at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Tuesday.

The identities of the deceased, believed to be around 60 and 55 years old respectively, could not be established immediately.

The bodies were recovered at different times in the morning and afternoon from beside the emergency department waiting room.

Ayub Ali, ward master at the DMCH emergency department, said the body of the unidentified man was recovered around 7:45am. Later, the body of the woman was recovered from the same area at around 12:15pm.

He said Shahbagh police were informed about the recovery of the two bodies.

Inspector Md Habibur Rahman, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, confirmed the incident and said both the man and woman appeared to be homeless.

He said they were initially suspected to have died from illness, but the exact cause of death would be known after autopsies.

The bodies have been kept at the DMCH morgue for autopsies.

A forensic team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has been informed to help identify the deceased. Police are also using technological assistance to establish their identities.
