Court bars former Jubo League acting chairman from leaving country

A Dhaka court has barred former acting chairman of Jubo League Md Anwarul Islam and his wife, Mosa Selina Khatun, from leaving the country.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Shahjahan Kabir passed the order on Tuesday following an application filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

According to the application, an investigation officer has been appointed to investigate allegations that Anwarul Islam abused his power to acquire a large amount of illegal wealth.

The application said the ACC had learned through confidential sources during the investigation that Anwarul Islam and his wife were attempting to leave the country.

If they left the country, the investigation could be delayed and disrupted, it said.

The ACC therefore sought a travel ban on the couple, saying such an order was necessary to ensure the investigation could proceed properly.
