Van driver's headless body recovered from paddy field

Police recovered the throat-slit body of a van driver from a paddy field in Pirganj upazila of Rangpur on Monday night.

The deceased was identified as Bipul Chandra Barman, son of Mahan Chandra Barman of Bahadurpur village in Raipur Union. 

The body was recovered from a paddy field beside a road leading to Sodapir, west of the Dhaka-Rangpur highway, in Boro Majidpur area of Ramanathpur Union around 1:00 AM.

According to locals, Bipul’s body was found lying in the field on Monday night. On being informed, police went to the spot and recovered the body. His battery-powered van was also found lying nearby.

Police suspect Bipul was stabbed to death during a struggle when miscreants attempted to snatch his battery-powered van.

Nazmul Haque, officer-in-charge of Pirganj Police Station, confirmed the matter saying police were conducting drives to identify and arrest those involved and uncover the motive behind the killing. He added that the victim’s family was preparing to file a case.
