Businessman and Mostafizur Rahman Foundation Chairman Rakibul Islam Rakib has alleged that the previous government used various conspiracies to keep Hindu and other religious communities away from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

“We never differentiated between Hindus and Muslims. We are all brothers. The discipline and communal harmony we have seen among you are highly commendable,” he said.

Rakib made the remarks as the chief guest at a greeting and financial assistance distribution programme organised by the Narayanganj District Puja Celebration Front on Tuesday evening (October 6) at the District Shilpakala Academy auditorium in Kalibazar, Narayanganj, marking Durga Puja.

He said BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had said, “Bangladesh comes first,” and was working to build a beautiful, culturally rich and communal-harmony-based country. He added that special plans were also in place for the Hindu community and that they would benefit from those initiatives.

At the programme, Rakib handed over Tk8 lakh in financial assistance to representatives of 40 puja mandaps in Narayanganj district and city, with each mandap receiving Tk20,000 from the Mostafizur Rahman Foundation.

Referring to the election held on the 12th, Rakib said, “You stood beside us in every police station. We found you beside us in every part of Narayanganj, including Araihazar. In the past, various attempts were made to keep us apart. During the previous government, there were various conspiracies to keep Hindu and other religious communities away from us. But over the past two years, we have seen the evidence—we have all been beside you since the BNP came to power.”

He said the foundation wanted to remain beside the community and provide services whenever needed, expressing hope that the community would also continue to support them.

Describing the activities of the Mostafizur Rahman Foundation, Rakib said it was a social organisation and urged people facing difficulties with medical treatment or education to contact the foundation for assistance.

The programme was chaired by Narayanganj District Puja Celebration Front President Kartik Ghosh.

Among others, Narayanganj Development Authority Chairman Mashukul Islam Rajib, Narayanganj Metropolitan BNP Joint Convener Fateh Mohammad Reza Ripon and Abul Kausar Asha, Metropolitan Jubo Dal Convener Monirul Islam Sajal, former founding president of Metropolitan Chhatra Dal Mazharul Islam Joseph, and leaders of the Puja Celebration Front and various puja mandaps were present.
