Universal pension is long-term social security: State minister

Universal pension is not merely a post-retirement financial benefit but a long-term social security system aimed at securing people’s future, Information and Broadcasting State Minister Yasser Khan Chowdhury said.

He made the remarks virtually while addressing a discussion and cultural programme at the Mymensingh Divisional Universal Pension Fair 2026 at the Circuit House field on Tuesday (October 6).

The state minister said citizens would make regular contributions while they are economically active and receive financial support later in life based on their savings, describing the system as a planned long-term social investment.

He said the universal pension system has four schemes — Probash, Progoti, Surakkha and Samata — allowing people to choose the scheme applicable to them.

He urged people to encourage their family members and colleagues to join the government pension schemes for greater financial security in the future.
