Three CU professors receive 'Distinguished Teacher Award'

CHATTOGRAM, Oct 6: Three professors from the University of Chittagong (CU) received the 'Gunijon Teacher Award (Distinguished Teacher Award)' at the national level on the occasion of World Teachers' Day. Among them, the world-renowned physicist Professor Dr. Jamal Nazrul Islam was honoured posthumously.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, attending as the chief guest at the national-level award distribution ceremony held at the capital's Osmani Memorial Auditorium on Monday, handed over the awards to them.

Professor Dr. Jamal Nazrul Islam, who received the posthumous award in the 'Teacher and Educationist' category, was a faculty member of the Department of Mathematics at the University of Chittagong. He made significant contributions to the fields of physics, mathematics, astronomy, and cosmology, gaining international recognition in these areas.

Dr. A.N.M. Munir Ahmed Chowdhury, a former professor of the Department of Political Science at CU, received the award in the 'Retired Teachers' category. Meanwhile, Dr. Amir Mohammad Nasrullah�"Director of the Institute of Sociology Research and Professor of the Department of Public Administration�"received the award in the 'Serving Teachers' category.

At the ceremony, Sadaf Saz Siddiqui, daughter of Professor Dr. Jamal Nazrul Islam, accepted the award memento on his behalf. CU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Al-Furkan accepted the memento on behalf of Professor Dr. A.N.M. Munir Ahmed Chowdhury while Professor Dr. Amir Mohammad Nasrullah received the award in person.

CU Vice-Chancellor congratulated the three professors, stating that their achievement brings immense joy and pride to the University of Chittagong. He expressed the view that this recognition would inspire the university's teachers to achieve greater excellence in education and research.

On this day, 102 distinguished teachers from across the country�"spanning levels from primary to higher education�"were honored for their contributions to various fields of education. Each recipient was awarded Tk 2 lakh, a crest, and a commemorative award.
