CHATTOGRAM, Oct 6: Police Constable Al Amin Sardar, who was critically injured after being struck by a bus while attempting to apprehend a snatcher in the Chattogram city, has died while undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College (CMC) Hospital.
He passed away early Monday morning while being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital.
The deceased was identified as Al Amin Sardar, 25, residents of Madaripur District.
He was attached to the Kotwali Police Station while serving in the Order Management Branch of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP). He had joined the Bangladesh Police in 2022.
According to police, on Sunday morning, while on duty at a checkpoint near WASA Intersection, Al Amin and other officers signalled three youths walking suspiciously to stop. When one of them attempted to flee, the checkpoint in-charge, ASI Hiron Mia, gave chase. Al Amin also took his motorcycle and tried to intercept the youth by approaching from a different route.
At one point, as Al Amin moved towards the western gate of the mosque, a bus belonging to Leaders School and College struck him from behind at high speed, causing critical injuries. He was subsequently rescued and taken to CMC Hospital, where doctors admitted him to the ICU. He died there early Monday morning.
Police have arrested the bus driver, Mosharraf, 38, and bus staff Joy Das, 30, in connection with the incident. The bus has also been seized, and a case has been filed against them under the Road Transport Act.
