Tongi East Police have intensified their crackdown on crime, arresting 419 people in various cases over the past 40 days.
According to police, 58 people were arrested in robbery cases, 36 in drug-related cases, 142 under arrest warrants and 183 in other cases during the period.
The arrests were made under the leadership of Tongi East Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Maksudul Alam as part of a series of operations against robbery, drug trafficking and other crimes.
During the drives, police also seized 572 yaba tablets, around 18kg of hemp, 22 grams of heroin, 15 bottles of foreign liquor and a number of locally made weapons.
OC Maksudul Alam said no criminal would be spared regardless of their influence or status.
“Anyone involved in criminal activities will be brought under the law,” he said, adding that police operations would continue to identify and arrest those who have gone into hiding following the recent drives.
Police have increased surveillance in crime-prone areas and intensified regular patrols and operations to arrest wanted criminals.
The police said legal action has been taken against those arrested in connection with the cases.
