A farmer died after being bitten by a venomous snake in Lohagara upazila of Narail.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Palash Molla, 50. He died while undergoing treatment at Faridpur Medical College Hospital on Tuesday (October 6).
According to locals and family members, Palash went to a beel in the Par Amdanga area of Joypur Union around 11:30AM to collect dry jute sticks when a venomous snake hidden among the sticks bit him.
After learning about the incident, locals took him to the house of a traditional healer in the Krishnapur area of Bhatiapara. The healer performed traditional treatment and told the family that the venom had subsided.
The family then took Palash home. On the way, they gave him hot milk from a shop at Bhatiapara Bazar.
As his condition deteriorated, he was taken to Kashiani Upazila Health Complex in Gopalganj. His condition worsened further there, and doctors advised the family to take him to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
Palash was later admitted to the hospital’s intensive care unit, where he died while undergoing treatment.
His body was taken to his home in Amdanga village of Lohagara. He was buried at the family graveyard after a funeral prayer on Tuesday night.
His death has cast a shadow of grief over his family and the local community.
