Dhaka University sociology professor Dr AKM Jamal Uddin has been shown arrested in another anti-terrorism case after securing bail in a similar case.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Joshita Islam passed the order on Wednesday (October 7) following an application by the investigation officer.
Jamal Uddin was arrested on March 11 from Gulistan Zero Point while participating in a programme titled “Bangabandhu Peace March-2026”. He was later sent to jail in an anti-terrorism case filed with Paltan Model Police Station. He recently obtained bail from the High Court in that case.
On October 1, police applied to show him arrested in another anti-terrorism case filed with the same police station. He was produced before the court from jail on Wednesday.
After hearing both sides, the court ordered that he be shown arrested in the new case.
According to the case statement, on May 18, 2025, members and alleged supporters of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League gathered in Gulistan, Baitul Mukarram and adjoining areas allegedly to carry out acts of sabotage and destruction. Police detained several people during a drive near Baitul Mukarram's south gate, while around 140-150 others reportedly fled.
Defence lawyer Khayer Uddin Shikdar said an International Crimes Tribunal case is also pending against Jamal Uddin.
