The country’s overall inflation rose to 8.34 per cent in September, up from 8.26 per cent in August, according to updated data released by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) on Tuesday (7 October).
Food inflation increased to 7.22 per cent from 7.02 per cent, while non-food inflation edged down to 9.30per cent from 9.32per cent.
In rural areas, overall inflation rose to 8.38 per cent from 8.31 per cent. Rural food inflation increased to 7.18 per cent from 7.01 per cent, while non-food inflation fell slightly to 9.57 per cent from 9.59 per cent.
In urban areas, overall inflation increased to 8.26 per cent from 8.20per cent. Urban food inflation rose to 7.25 per cent from 7.04per cent, while non-food inflation declined to 8.94per cent from 8.97per cent.
Meanwhile, wage growth slowed slightly despite the rise in inflation. National wage growth stood at 7.90per cent in September, down from 8.05 per cent in August. Sector-wise, wage growth was 7.89 per cent in agriculture, 7.86 per cent in industry and 8.07 per cent in the services sector.
